Maddalena Spanu triumphs at the Defi Wind, solidifying her status as a rising star in water sports. This victory marks a significant milestone for the Young Azzurra athlete, who aimed to conquer the one event that eluded her last year.
The Defi Wind event, held in Gruissan, France, is the largest water sports gathering globally, drawing over 2,000 participants. Maddalena faced fierce competition in the Wing class, racing against around 600 athletes. She dominated the field, finishing with two wins, a second, and a third place, while discarding a less favorable result to clinch the top spot in the women's category. Vaina Picot and Enoha Laurant rounded out the podium in second and third, respectively.
Maddalena expressed her joy, stating, “I am absolutely delighted with this win… to achieve it today alongside my brother Nicolò is an emotion that's hard to put into words.” Nicolò Spanu also celebrated victory in the men's category, making it a family affair atop the podium.
Next up for Maddalena is the WingFoil Racing World Cup in Turkey from May 19-23, where she aims to continue her winning momentum. The YCCS acknowledges her remarkable achievement at this prestigious event.
