The 2026 Women's World Match Racing Tour launches in Rungsted, Denmark, showcasing fierce competition right from day one. This event sets the stage for an exciting season with five major contests lined up.
Eight teams from France, Sweden, Denmark, and the Netherlands compete in the KDY Women's Match Race, hosted by the Royal Danish Yacht Club. Over four days, teams engage in a double round robin qualifying stage, leading to the semi-finals and finals. Defending champion Pauline Courtois and her Match in Pink Normandy Elite Team dominate the opening day, achieving a perfect five wins from five races, firmly establishing themselves as frontrunners.
In contrast, Sweden's Anna Östling and her WINGS Sailing Team, the 2024 Denmark winner, start with a mixed record of three wins and two losses. Östling acknowledges the ups and downs but remains optimistic about their performance, emphasizing the importance of early mistakes in a long competition.
Local favorites, the 'Seagulls,' led by Kristine Mauritzen, capitalize on their home advantage, securing four wins and trailing Courtois by just one point. The competition intensifies as racing continues through Sunday, May 9. For more details, check out womenswmrt.com/events/kdy-womens-match-race-2026.
