Jaume Guardeño of Caja Rural-Seguros RGA is hospitalized in serious condition following a training crash. The 23-year-old Spaniard suffered significant injuries after hitting a rock while descending near Centelles, north of Barcelona, before colliding with a car.
Reports indicate Guardeño was sedated and in critical condition immediately after the accident. However, his condition has since stabilized, as confirmed Thursday morning.
Caja Rural-Seguros RGA released a statement detailing the incident. They noted Guardeño's crash occurred during training after his recent participation in the Volta a Catalunya. He was airlifted to Taulí Hospital in Sabadell, where he remains in the ICU under close medical supervision.
The team expressed unwavering support for Guardeño and his family during this challenging time, wishing him a swift and full recovery. They promise to provide updates as his situation evolves.
Guardeño turned professional with Caja Rural-Seguros RGA at the start of the 2024 season. Notable performances include an eighth-place finish at the Tour of Qinghai Lake and 11th at the Volta a Portugal. Last year, he made his Grand Tour debut at the Vuelta a España, finishing 14th.
