Jai Hindley gears up for the 2026 Giro d'Italia not as a solo leader but as a co-captain alongside rising star Giulio Pellizzari, aiming to challenge the dominant Jonas Vingegaard.
This strategic partnership signals a shift in tactics for Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe as they prepare to disrupt Vingegaard's Grand Tour ambitions.
Hindley, a former Giro winner, is taking on a dual leadership role after a season spent supporting younger teammates, including Pellizzari, who recently triumphed at the Tour of the Alps. This marks a significant change for Hindley, who has played a domestique role throughout the year, helping teammates like Remco Evenepoel and Florian Lipowitz. In a team presentation in Burgas, he stated, "We'll be here with me and Giulio as co-leaders... I think it definitely helps if you can have numbers in the final."
While Vingegaard is the clear favorite, Hindley emphasizes that Red Bull will focus on their own race strategy. Having previously collaborated with Pellizzari during the Vuelta a España, they are aware of the challenge posed by the two-time Tour de France champion and look to leverage their teamwork for a strong GC result.
