Giulio Ciccone’s quest for a stage win at the Giro d'Italia hits another roadblock as he faces fierce competition. Despite wearing the pink jersey earlier in the race, Ciccone's frustration mounts after being caught just 1.7 kilometers from the summit on stage 9.
The Italian cyclist spent most of the day in a breakaway, but the general classification contenders kept him within reach. After being consistently shut down in his previous attempts, Ciccone deliberately lost time on stage 8 to regain a chance at success.
On stage 9, he pushed hard to join the breakaway but was thwarted again, lamenting, "Even today, they don't want me up there from the start." His relentless efforts included multiple attacks, notably with 72 kilometers to go, but he couldn't shake the chasing peloton.
As he battled up the final climbs, he managed to reduce his group to just five riders before going solo with 7.5 kilometers left. Ultimately, his hopes evaporated when Jonas Vingegaard and Felix Gall surged ahead. Ciccone's determination shines through, but the competition proves relentless in this grueling race.
