Davide Piganzoli is set to be a key player in Jonas Vingegaard's Giro d'Italia campaign. This young Italian cyclist, at just 23 years old, aims to showcase his potential following a strong start in the race.
Piganzoli, who joined Visma-Lease a Bike in 2026, has already proven his mettle by leading Vingegaard's first attack on the second stage of the Giro, pushing the pace on the challenging Lyaskovets Monastery Pass. Vingegaard, a former Tour de France champion, relies on a solid support team, including Sepp Kuss and Wilco Kelderman, but it's Piganzoli’s youthful energy that could make a significant impact in the mountains ahead.
Reflecting on his role, Piganzoli stated, “I’m here to help Jonas the most I can.” His determination was evident as he executed a strategy that allowed Vingegaard to test his rivals. Despite some challenges, including missed opportunities to sprint for the finish, the duo is poised for success.
Having finished 13th and 14th in the previous two editions of the Giro with Polti VisitMalta, Piganzoli is ready to step into a more prominent role. His performance could be pivotal as Vingegaard seeks to conquer the Italian roads.
