Ethan Hayter of Soudal-QuickStep faces penalties from the UCI following an inappropriate gesture during the Tirreno-Adriatico time trial. The British champion briefly raised his middle finger while competing, an act caught on camera and broadcast worldwide. The target of the gesture remains unclear, though it may have been directed at a motorbike camera crew tracking him closely.
As a result, Hayter receives a fine of 500 Swiss Francs and loses 25 points in the UCI individual world ranking. The UCI's regulations on improper conduct cover such behavior, with fines ranging from 200 to 2,000 Swiss Francs and point deductions from 10 to 100. Hayter finishes eighth in the 11.5km time trial, 32 seconds behind winner Filippo Ganna of Ineos Grenadiers.
