Amstel Gold Race champion Remco Evenepoel will skip La Flèche Wallonne, setting his sights on the upcoming Liège-Bastogne-Liège showdown against defending champion Tadej Pogačar. This strategic decision underscores Evenepoel's focus on recovering for the Monument race rather than tackling all three Ardennes Classics.

Evenepoel’s Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe team announced that he will prioritize his recovery after his recent sprint victory over Mattias Skjelmose. Despite expressing interest in racing La Flèche, the team confirmed he will not participate, aiming instead to be in peak form for Liège-Bastogne-Liège this Sunday.

Historically, La Flèche Wallonne poses challenges for Evenepoel. His past results include a ninth-place finish last year and a 43rd in 2022, indicating the race isn’t ideally suited to his strengths. As a two-time winner of Liège, he returns with renewed vigor after dealing with injuries from a serious accident in December 2025.

Pogačar, the three-time winner, dominated last year’s event, finishing solo more than a minute ahead of his closest competitor. With both riders poised for a thrilling clash, Evenepoel's absence from La Flèche Wallonne sets the stage for a high-stakes encounter in Liège.
