Tim Merlier storms to victory in the final stage of the Tour de Hongrie, clinching his third win of the week. This performance solidifies Merlier's dominance, while Jakob Söderqvist endures a late crash to secure the overall general classification title.
On the challenging 147.1km course, Merlier, riding in the green points jersey, launched a powerful sprint in the last 100 meters, outpacing Alberto Dainese for the win. Alexis Renard and Fernando Gaviria finished strong in second and third place, respectively, while Dainese took fourth.
The stage featured unpredictable weather with sporadic rain and late sunshine, plus three intermediate sprints and five categorized climbs. Early on, a breakaway of seven riders attempted to gain an advantage, but chaos ensued as echelons formed, leading to Söderqvist's crash in the final 20km. Despite this setback, he maintained his lead in the overall standings.
In the mountains classification, Erik Fetter took command after successfully navigating the climbs. Merlier's consistent performance throughout the week leaves him with a substantial 12-point lead in the points classification, marking a triumphant finish to the Tour de Hongrie.
