Jonas Vingegaard sends a clear warning to his Giro d'Italia rivals with a commanding solo victory on stage 9 atop Corno alle Scale. This performance signals a pivotal moment in the race as he gains crucial time on his competitors.
Vingegaard, riding for Visma-Lease a Bike, launches his decisive attack in the final kilometre, leaving Felix Gall of Decathlon CMA CGM behind. Gall had initiated the action, breaking from the General Classification group within the last 3km, but Vingegaard stays right on his wheel, ultimately striking as they approach the finish line. He claims the stage win, clocking in 11 seconds ahead of Gall, who secures second place. Vingegaard's teammate, Davide Piganzoli, finishes third, adding another 20 seconds to the gap.
Despite this victory, Vingegaard remains off the pink jersey, held by Afonso Eulálio of Bahrain Victorious, who also finishes strongly in fifth place. Vingegaard expresses satisfaction with his current position, stating, “We are where we wanted to be,” emphasizing confidence in his strategy moving forward. As the Giro progresses, the tension builds, and Vingegaard's form suggests he is a formidable threat for the overall title.
