Michael Matthews (Jayco-AlUla) is out of the Spring Classics after suffering a severe training crash. The Australian cyclist breaks both wrists and faces a lengthy recovery. He was set to compete in Paris-Nice on Sunday, leading into his favorite event, Milan-San Remo, followed by the cobbled Classics.

Team Jayco-AlUla confirms Matthews' injuries via a statement, revealing CT-scan results show fractures to both wrists. He is transferred to the hospital for further treatment.

This comes after a promising start to his season, including a victory at the Gran Premio Castellón and a third-place finish at the Trofeo Ses Salines. At 35, Matthews has podiumed at Milan-San Remo three times but has never claimed victory. He now awaits next year's chance, when he will be 36 and in the final year of his contract. Return date to racing remains uncertain.
