SD Worx-Protime faces disappointment at the Amstel Gold Race, marking a stark contrast to their success last year. Despite entering the race with high hopes and a formidable lineup, including defending champion Mischa Bredewold and former winner Anna van der Breggen, the team struggles to capitalize on their home advantage.
The best result came from Van der Breggen, finishing ninth, making this the first time since the race's women's reinstatement in 2017 that SD Worx-Protime fails to place a rider in the top four. This is only the second occasion they have missed the podium at this event. The team aimed to elevate their performance following a close runner-up finish at De Brabantse Pijl just days prior.
Anna van der Breggen acknowledged the competition, emphasizing the need to be tactical and aggressive. However, with two laps remaining, Lorena Wiebes fell out of contention and recorded a DNF. Despite the presence of Blanka Vas, Nienke Vinke, and Bredewold near the front, the race outcome slipped away. The hopes for a strong showing quickly faded, leaving the team to regroup and rethink their strategy moving forward in the Classics season.
