Thibau Nys is sidelined for the entire spring Classics season after knee surgery, announced by his Lidl-Trek team. The 23-year-old Belgian was poised to compete in the Ardennes Classics in April and the Giro d'Italia in May. Now, he may not return until summer following an operation for prepatellar friction syndrome in his left knee. Nys has not raced on the road in 2026, with his last performance being a third-place finish at the UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships on February 1. Lidl-Trek reports he needs at least three and a half weeks off the bike, aiming for a return to training by late April. Nys underwent a successful partial prepatellar fasciectomy at Herentals hospital. The team is optimistic about his recovery and will confirm a competition return date as he progresses.
