The countdown to the 2026 Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race is officially on, with entries now open for this iconic event. Here’s why this race is a must for sailors around the world.
The Cruising Yacht Club of Australia (CYCA) and the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania (RYCT) invite everyone from seasoned veterans to newcomers to secure their spot early. Last year, 128 yachts participated, marking the second-largest fleet this century, only eclipsed by the 2019 event.
Since its inception in 1945 with just nine yachts, the Rolex Sydney Hobart has evolved into a premier offshore race, covering 628 nautical miles of challenging waters. This race is the grand finale of the Audi Centre Sydney Blue Water Pointscore (ACSBWPS), making it a highlight of the sailing calendar.
CYCA Commodore Dr. Sam Haynes, a two-time overall winner, expresses excitement for the 81st edition. Last year's historic 80th race saw Jiang Lin and co-skipper Alexis Loison make waves as the first Double Handed team to win the coveted George Adams Tattersall Cup, inspiring future competitors.
With increased interest in the Double Handed Division and a strong international presence anticipated, the 2026 Rolex Sydney Hobart promises to be a thrilling spectacle for sailors and fans alike.
