Esapekka Lappi makes a surprising return to the World Rally Championship at Rally Sweden. After believing his top-level rallying career was over, the two-time WRC event winner rejoins Hyundai for a part-time program. Following a challenging 2024 campaign and a year away from the WRC, Lappi remains active in rallying, winning the Finnish national championship with co-driver Enni Malkonen. Lappi shares Hyundai’s third car with Dani Sordo and Hayden Paddon, stepping in after Ott Tanak's sabbatical.
He heads to Sweden with strong momentum, having recently secured a class victory at the Arctic Lapland Rally in a Skoda Fabia Rally2. Lappi aims to tackle the challenging conditions in Sweden, recalling his 2024 win there. Hyundai sporting director Andrew Wheatley expresses confidence in Lappi and teammates Thierry Neuville and Adrien Fourmaux to compete for podium finishes.
