The 2026 ILCA 4 Youth European Championships & Open European Trophy has officially launched in Los Alcázares, Spain, with thrilling action on the Mar Menor. This event features 258 boys and 169 girls from 42 countries, marking it as the second-largest ILCA 4 Youth Europeans ever.
Today’s racing conditions were outstanding, with winds between 16 to 22 knots and choppy waves, pushing competitors to their limits. In the girls' fleet, Turkey's Derin Degisen, the 2025 European runner-up, dominates with two race wins, closely followed by Greece's Elene Alchanati, just one point behind. The podium is rounded out by Spain's Blanca Ferrando Babe, the reigning ILCA 4 Youth World Champion.
In the boys' fleet, a tight race sees Switzerland's Leo Gosling and Turkey's Arel Hangul tied at the top with perfect scores. Spain's David Sales and Fernando Echavarri Castanedo trail closely, just one point back. Arel Hangul also leads the Under-16 standings, with Alfonso Murube Cid and Konstantinos Karakasidis following.
The event receives support from numerous sponsors, including CSD, RFEV, and Gobierno Regional. For details, check the event website at 2026-ilca4youth.eurilca-europeans.org.
