Loïs Berrehar aboard Banque Populaire claims the lead in the opening leg of the 57th La Solitaire du Figaro Paprec. This thrilling start sets the stage for a competitive race, revealing the strategic challenges sailors face ahead.
The event kicked off on May 17, with 36 Figaro sailors departing from a coastal course between Sept-Îles and Ploumanac'h, all under ideal sailing conditions. After about forty minutes of racing, Berrehar emerged first, navigating towards Wolf Rock, the initial waypoint. Spectators lined the shores, witnessing the excitement as competitors raced at high speeds.
The day ahead requires the sailors to contend with upwind conditions towards the English coast of Cornwall, balancing speed with energy conservation. As the weather shifts, a low-pressure system is expected to challenge their endurance starting Monday night.
The first ranking sees Loïs Berrehar leading, followed by Arno Biston (Article.1) and Edouard Gobery (SOS Villages d'Enfants). Berrehar's performance earns him the Paprec Trophy, igniting the competition among these elite skippers.
As they tackle the opening leg, the sailors express excitement and determination, knowing that finding the right balance will be crucial for success in this demanding race.
