George Russell remains unfazed by the shifting dynamics of the Formula 1 title race. Despite losing his early championship lead, he’s focused on the long game. After a strong start in Australia, Russell now trails teammate Kimi Antonelli by nine points following Antonelli’s back-to-back victories in China and Japan.

Russell attributes the changes to circumstance rather than momentum. At Suzuka, a poorly-timed Safety Car impacted his performance. He states, “Just how it’s panned out, really. Sometimes people are having problems in practice. We’ve not had a single issue in practice this whole season.”

With a forced four-week break in the calendar due to the conflict in Iran, Russell sees it as an opportunity to reset. He dismisses concerns over Antonelli’s rising status, saying, “No, not at all. We’re three races down in 22… one lap different today and the victory would have been on my side.”

Russell believes his speed remains the benchmark in the team, referencing his potential performance in China. “It’s just how it turns out. That’s racing,” he adds. The championship is far from over, and Russell’s confidence signals that the battle for the title is just beginning.
