Denny Hamlin captures his 63rd NASCAR Cup Series victory at Michigan International Speedway, honoring his late teammate Kyle Busch in a heartfelt tribute. This win not only marks Hamlin's second consecutive triumph but also ties him with Busch for ninth place on the all-time wins list.
Stay tuned to discover the emotional significance behind Hamlin’s victory and how it reflects the challenges faced by the NASCAR community this season.
Hamlin celebrated by waving a black No. 18 flag, symbolizing his respect for Busch, who passed away on May 21. "We love you, KB," he radioed during his victory lap. This race follows a tough offseason for NASCAR, which has seen multiple losses, including that of Hamlin's father and Hall of Famer Ned Jarrett.
Despite starting from the back due to a penalty for unapproved adjustments, Hamlin dominated the race, ultimately leading by 11.110 seconds—the largest margin at Michigan since 1991. Erik Jones finished second, while Bubba Wallace achieved a season-best third place. “I don’t think anyone was going to contend with Denny at the end,” Kyle Larson remarked.
Hamlin’s performance underscores his resilience and dedication amidst personal and collective grief in the sport.
