Karen Baker steps in as the new Commodore of Royal Southampton Yacht Club, making history as only the third woman to hold the position in 150 years. A dedicated member since 2001, Baker brings nearly 40 years of competitive sailing and leadership experience from her NHS career. She aims to enhance member experience and expand the club's demographic while championing sustainability initiatives. Recent projects include planting over two thousand saplings around the clubhouse and planning a river litter pick. Baker is also exploring solar energy for a sustainable water taxi service. Outgoing Commodore Guy Darby praises her vision and leadership, wishing her success. Joining Baker on the Executive Committee are Harry Taylor-Lepercq, Rob Miller, and Virginia Boyle, with new appointments to the Finance Committee. RSYC, located on the Beaulieu River, invites prospective members to an Open Day on April 6, 2026.
