Takamoto Katsuta declares a “full attack” strategy for Rally Japan, aiming for a heartfelt home victory. This is the moment fans have been waiting for as Katsuta seeks to secure a win in front of his home crowd after Rally Japan returned to the WRC calendar in 2022.
Katsuta has shown he possesses the speed to contend, with a third-place finish in 2022 as his highest achievement so far. Last year, he was in the battle for the top spot until a costly mistake led to a power steering failure. Now, with a breakthrough season that includes wins at the Safari Rally Kenya and Croatia Rally, he stands just 12 points behind championship leader Elfyn Evans. Starting second on Japan's technical asphalt stages gives him an advantageous position.
Katsuta acknowledges the challenge ahead, facing stiff competition not only from Evans, a two-time champion of this event, but also from teammates Oliver Solberg and Sami Pajari, both of whom have demonstrated their speed this season. Katsuta remains focused and determined, stating, “I will try to do my best,” as he enters what could be his best shot at a home victory yet.
