Sébastien Ogier is eager to invite Max Verstappen to test a World Rally Championship car, highlighting a potential crossover between F1 and rallying. Here’s why this invitation could open new doors for Verstappen’s motorsport journey.
Ogier, a nine-time WRC champion, recently attended the Nürburgring 24 Hours, where he witnessed Verstappen's impressive performance with his Winward-Mercedes teammates. Following the event, Ogier congratulated Verstappen on social media and suggested that the Red Bull F1 driver should consider rallying, echoing the footsteps of his father, Jos Verstappen, who competes in the Belgian Rally Championship. Verstappen playfully replied, asking, “you as teacher?”
Though an enthusiast of rallying, Verstappen remains cautious about competitive participation, citing the risks involved. He previously drove Ogier’s 2018 WRC-winning M-Sport Ford Fiesta during a promotional event but has expressed reluctance to enter the sport full-time. Ahead of Rally Japan, Ogier reaffirmed his willingness to facilitate a test, emphasizing the need for Verstappen to experience rallying in its true environment, rather than on a circuit.
With Ogier focused on securing victory in Japan after a recent setback, the prospect of Verstappen testing a WRC car adds an intriguing layer to the motorsport scene.
