Bright sunshine and a building breeze set the stage for an unforgettable day at Ripon Sailing Club as over 30 kids, including several newcomers, hit the water on April 18th. This event, part of the ROTTERS calendar, showcases why sailing is gaining traction among young enthusiasts.

Participants are divided into three skill levels: Red (Race Squad), Blue (Intermediate), and White (Beginner), with newcomers joining the White group. The Red group practices start drills on the North lake, while the Blue group hones their upwind sailing skills in the South lake. The White group enjoys taster sails in Vision or Feva boats, with some venturing into single-handers. Notably, Elodie stands out, earning the ROTTER of the Month title for her impressive Topper sailing.

The day also features a delicious lunch prepared by Caroline, drawing in hungry sailors and parents alike. After a spirited football match, the Red group joins the Saturday race series, showcasing their skills learned from morning drills. As wind conditions intensify, capsizes occur across the groups, but the Blue group stays dry.

By day’s end, the sailors return, wet but exhilarated, sharing tales of their adventures. Special thanks go to all coaches and volunteers who made this epic day possible, highlighting the community spirit that drives ROTTERS.
