The 2026 Ash Trophy at Littleton Sailing Club showcases a dramatic shift from last year's challenges at Frensham Pond. This year's event features stunning facilities and a spacious lake for sailing, drawing ten competitors, including seven visitors.
Despite the promising southerly winds, race officer Roger Stollery faces unpredictable gusts and lulls that complicate the racing. The day begins in flat calm, yet twelve races are completed. In Race 1, East Kent's Dave Adams seizes the advantage, sailing ahead of Emsworth's John Darbyshire and local sailor Alan Viney. Race 2 sees Mike Wilkie dominate after a strong start, finishing well clear of Jim La Roche and John.
As the wind shifts southeast, the course changes to enhance visibility, but shallow waters cause issues for two boats in Race 3, leading to redress for Mike and Jim. Andrew Wigley finds his rhythm in Race 3, claiming victory ahead of Phil Davenport and John.
Jim La Roche claims Race 4, while Mike secures his second win in Race 5. The event culminates with Dave winning the final race, showcasing impressive light-weather skills not often seen on his home waters. At the prize-giving, Roger commends the competitors for their sportsmanship throughout the challenging conditions.
