James Mayo, Paul Cayard, and Ben Lamb aboard Magpie AUS 1526 make history today by clinching the 2026 Etchells World Championship title, marking Mayo's third consecutive win—an achievement not seen in over four decades. This victory solidifies their dominance with a total of 56 points, while Scott Kaufman’s Rogue USA 1519 finishes second at 73 points, and 2023 Champion John Sommi’s Encore USA 1529 takes third with 80 points.

The race kicked off after a nearly two-hour delay, with winds around 10 knots providing ideal San Diego sailing conditions. Competitors initially favored the left side of the starting line, but it was Canada’s Luke Lawrence and Cruel Jane CAN 1531 who led at the first windward mark. However, Magpie quickly closed the gap and overtook them by the second mark, ultimately securing the win.

Cayard, new to Etchells sailing, expressed gratitude for being part of such a talented team, while Lamb reflected on the fierce competition from Olympians and World Champions. Mayo highlighted the emotional weight of the victory and hinted at aiming for a fourth title in Hong Kong. Awards will be presented tonight at the San Diego Yacht Club, with full results available online.
