Brendan Donovan of the Seattle Mariners is sidelined with a left groin strain, impacting the team's depth. Here’s why this injury could reshape the Mariners' lineup for the upcoming games.
Donovan, who was placed on the 10-day injured list retroactive to Saturday, exited Friday's game against the Texas Rangers due to a left hip issue. He has been grappling with right groin discomfort for two weeks, potentially linked to an October 7 sports hernia surgery. Manager Dan Wilson emphasizes the need for careful monitoring of Donovan's condition, as he has been a significant contributor this season, boasting a .304 batting average with three home runs and eight RBIs over 18 games.
In response to Donovan's absence, the Mariners have called up infielder Will Wilson from Triple-A Tacoma. The 27-year-old, a first-round pick in the 2019 draft, made his MLB debut last season with the Cleveland Guardians, where he posted a .192 average. In Tacoma, Wilson has performed better, hitting .275 with one home run and four RBIs in 14 games.
Additionally, utility infielder Miles Mastrobuoni is transferred to the 60-day IL due to a calf injury sustained during the World Baseball Classic, further straining the Mariners’ roster.
