Justin Verlander is placed on the 15-day injured list due to left hip inflammation. The 43-year-old right-hander's highly anticipated return to Comerica Park as a Detroit Tiger is postponed. Scheduled to make his first Tigers start at home since August 20, 2017, Verlander last played for Houston after being traded that season. He rejoined Detroit on a one-year, $13 million deal in February following a stint with San Francisco. In his season debut, Verlander allowed five runs and six hits over 3⅔ innings against Arizona, suffering the loss. RHP Keider Montero is recalled from Triple-A Toledo and will start in the series finale against St. Louis.
