Gerrit Cole hits 96.9 mph in his first session against hitters since Tommy John surgery last March. The Yankees ace throws around 20 pitches of batting practice, facing Trent Grisham, Aaron Judge, and Jasson Dominguez at spring training. Cole's first bullpen session occurred just a week prior. The Yankees project him to return between May and September, aligning with his 14 to 18-month recovery timeline. "It sounds like it was really good," says manager Aaron Boone ahead of the Yankees’ exhibition opener against the Baltimore Orioles. Cole, 35, has modified his windup, now raising his hands over his head instead of stopping at his chest. His last official game was Game 5 of the 2024 World Series on October 30. He briefly pitched in two spring training games in 2025 before undergoing surgery just five days later.
