Adrian Fernandez, a leading contender in Moto3, faces a major setback as he's disqualified from six of the seven races this season due to a severe engine violation. This shocking decision reshapes the championship landscape.
Fernandez, who is the brother of MotoGP winner Raul, previously held third place in the standings, trailing Maximo Quiles by 55 points. However, an investigation by MotoGP stewards into alleged "tampering" with two sealed engines has led to the loss of his top finishes, including podiums. Technical director Danny Aldridge uncovered inconsistencies with the wire seals on the engine used in the first four rounds, revealing unauthorized access that compromised the approved sealing system.
Moto3 regulations allow six engines per season, each marked and sealed prior to use to prevent unauthorized modifications. Further scrutiny of an engine used in rounds five and six at Le Mans and Barcelona also indicated tampering. The stewards deemed these actions detrimental to the sport's integrity.
As a result, Fernandez's point total plummets from 90 to just 13. The impact of his disqualifications slightly narrows Quiles's lead to 50 points over Alvaro Carpe, while rookies Marco Morelli and Veda Pratama ascend to podium finishes at Jerez and Le Mans, respectively.
