Chris Gabehart, former competition director of Joe Gibbs Racing, faces a lawsuit from the iconic NASCAR team, claiming retaliation for his departure. Gabehart asserts that he left due to untenable conditions surrounding Ty Gibbs, Joe Gibbs’ grandson. In a declaration filed in the Western District of North Carolina, Gabehart admits to taking photos of JGR projects but insists his forensic audit shows no information was shared with any other team.

JGR accuses Gabehart of orchestrating a scheme to steal sensitive information and has expanded the lawsuit to include Spire Motorsports, seeking a restraining order to block Gabehart's employment there. Gabehart counters that his 13-year career at JGR deteriorated amid pressure to crew chief for Ty Gibbs, despite being promised a COO-type role. He cites a dysfunctional management structure that thwarted his authority.

Gabehart highlights his concerns over unequal treatment of the No. 54 team compared to others, alleging Ty Gibbs was exempt from standard attendance rules. Following escalating tensions last season, Gabehart began negotiating a separation agreement but claims JGR stopped his pay in November, leading to the current legal battle. JGR is seeking over $8 million in damages, alleging contract violations and theft of trade secrets.
