A record 65 teams compete in the 2026 Nations’ Cup, marking its 15th anniversary and showcasing the spirit of international sailing. This year's event features crews from 18 nations, including Australia, France, Japan, and the USA, all vying for national pride and glory on Victoria Harbour.
Participants don vibrant costumes, adding to the festive atmosphere. Notable displays include sailors from the Pandora class as Cathay Pacific flight crew and French competitors dressed as Ratatouille characters. Australian lifeguards humorously patrol the fleet, while Japanese teams embody the spirit of sumo wrestlers.
Under optimal wind conditions of 8 to 10 knots, Race Officer Lucy Sutro guides the fleet through a challenging course. For the first time, Hugues Rondouin’s Flying Fifteen Second Wind from France takes home the top title, with Hong Kong’s Gabriel Leung’s Ruffian Larrikin and Frank van Kempen’s Etchells Bloody Brilliant from the Netherlands rounding out the podium.
Sunny Leung’s Manbude secures victory in the PHS division. Lucy Sutro praises the event’s atmosphere, stating, “It’s such a joy to see so many people having fun racing.” The day concludes with a lively prizegiving ceremony, celebrating camaraderie and competition in sailing's vibrant community.
