Final preparations are heating up for the 2026 Royal Escape Race, set to take place from May 21 to May 23. Here’s why this race is a must-watch event this season.
The 46th edition invites both seasoned sailors and newcomers to tackle the thrilling cross-Channel journey from Brighton to Fécamp, France. Sussex Yacht Club serves as the operational hub, hosting registration, briefings, and essential pre-race activities. Competitors gather at the Club on the evening of May 21 for the official race briefing and to collect their race packs and trackers.
The race kicks off at 08:00 BST on May 22, just off Brighton Palace Pier. Participants can track the fleet in real time via YellowBrick, ensuring an engaging experience for spectators.
The Royal Escape Race, which commemorates Charles II's escape to Fécamp in 1651, blends rich history with modern offshore competition. Supported by Bishop Skinner Marine and Musto, the event continues to thrive, fostering a strong sense of community among participants.
With just weeks to go, Sussex Yacht Club encourages final entries, ensuring this historic challenge remains a highlight of the offshore sailing calendar. For more information and entry details, visit www.sussexyachtclub.org.uk/royal-escape-race.
