Luka Doncic is out for the remainder of the regular season due to a Grade 2 left hamstring strain. The Los Angeles Lakers confirmed the news following an MRI that revealed the injury sustained during Thursday’s blowout loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Recovery from a Grade 2 strain typically takes about a month, and Doncic will miss the final five games.
The NBA playoffs kick off on April 18, and Doncic’s absence will prevent him from achieving the 65-game threshold necessary for end-of-season awards. His agent, Bill Duffy, plans to file for an "Extraordinary Circumstances Challenge" to advocate for Doncic's eligibility. Duffy highlights Doncic’s exceptional performance this season, where he leads the league with 33.5 points per game, alongside 8.3 assists and 7.7 rebounds.
The Lakers, currently third in the Western Conference, have already secured a playoff spot. They face the Dallas Mavericks, Oklahoma City Thunder, Golden State Warriors, Phoenix Suns, and Utah Jazz in their remaining schedule. L.A. maintains a slight lead over the Denver Nuggets, Houston Rockets, and Minnesota Timberwolves, owning the tiebreaker against them. Doncic's record-breaking season deserves recognition, despite this unfortunate setback.
