Aaron Rodgers' future with the Pittsburgh Steelers remains uncertain, but owner Art Rooney expects a decision within weeks. Here’s why this could reshape the Steelers' season.
Rooney shared an update, revealing that discussions with Rodgers are ongoing. “We’ve been in contact with Aaron on a regular basis... I think we will come to a conclusion here in the next few weeks,” he stated during an NFL Network interview. The Steelers placed an unrestricted free-agent tender on the 42-year-old quarterback, which means if he signs elsewhere, Pittsburgh could receive a compensatory draft pick. Rooney emphasized, “We don’t expect that, but... it's just something that, in the unlikely event that he goes somewhere else, we are eligible for a comp pick.”
Last season, Rodgers led the Steelers to an AFC North title with a 10-7 record before a wild-card loss to the Houston Texans. He threw for 3,322 yards, with 24 touchdowns and a 94.8 passer rating over 16 games. Meanwhile, Pittsburgh's quarterback options include Mason Rudolph, Will Howard, and Drew Allar, the latter selected with the No. 76 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. If Rodgers returns, he reunites with former coach Mike McCarthy, who led him during his tenure with the Green Bay Packers.
