David Montgomery is heading to the Houston Texans in a trade with the Detroit Lions. The Lions receive offensive lineman Juice Scruggs, a fourth-round pick, and a seventh-round pick in return. This deal follows Montgomery's recent comments questioning trade rumors. Detroit successfully assesses Montgomery's value, aiming for an early Day 3 pick. Houston boosts its backfield after ranking 22nd in rushing last season, hampered by Pro Bowl running back Joe Mixon's injury. Montgomery had a challenging 2025, rushing for 716 yards and eight touchdowns, but he remains a significant asset. In his two seasons with Detroit, he amassed 1,790 rushing yards and 25 touchdowns. The rise of Jahmyr Gibbs made Montgomery expendable. Meanwhile, Houston also trades starting right tackle Tytus Howard to the Cleveland Browns for a fifth-round pick. Both trades await finalization with the new league year starting on March 11.
