Lightning coach Jon Cooper is out for two games following the death of his father, Robert. Assistant Rob Zettler steps in as acting head coach, leading the team to a 4-2 victory over Toronto on Wednesday night. Zettler will again coach against Carolina on Thursday. Cooper, who led the Lightning to Stanley Cup titles in 2020 and 2021, recently helmed Team Canada at the Milan Cortina Olympics, where they secured silver after a 2-1 overtime loss to the United States. Zettler expresses support for Cooper: “He takes care of business back home. Our guys have been excellent this year, especially during tough times.” The NHL resumes its season after a break for the Olympics, with the Lightning posting an impressive 19-1-1 record in their last 21 games before the pause.
