Virgil van Dijk is reportedly set to leave Liverpool on a free transfer, marking a significant shift for the club. This news highlights a potential exodus of nine players this summer, a move that could reshape Liverpool's future.
Van Dijk, once hailed as one of the Premier League's finest centre-backs, has faced a dramatic decline this season, contributing to Liverpool’s defensive struggles. His new two-year contract, signed last season, now seems precarious as he approaches the end of his tenure at Anfield. Alongside him, Ibrahima Konate's form has also dropped significantly since their title-winning campaign.
Liverpool's issues stem from poor recruitment and lackluster tactics under head coach Arne Slot. Along with the loss of Diogo Jota, these factors have created an environment ripe for change. The club has already secured Rennes standout Jeremy Jacquet as a long-term defensive option, while they remain in negotiations with Konate, whose contract is also nearing its end.
In addition to Van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson are confirmed to depart, with a total of nine players— including Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott, and Alexis Mac Allister—expected to leave. Mac Allister, in particular, could be sold to fund the squad rebuild, as European clubs show interest.
