A record 115 boats are set to compete in the 2026 Tasar World Championships in Okinawa, Japan. This event, running from June 4-12, will be the largest Tasar Worlds ever held in Japan, showcasing a remarkable lineup of talent.
Among the 38 Australian entries, Erin Sims and James Belton make their debut as a team, marking a significant milestone in their sailing journey. Their partnership began 18 months ago during a casual conversation that ignited Erin's passion for sailing and set them on the path to the World Championships. James, an experienced sailor, has taken on the role of Erin's coach, and their progress is evident, culminating in a strong performance at the National Championships where they secured second in the Apprentice Master division.
The event also highlights the enduring appeal of the Tasar class, with over a quarter of the Australian teams featuring parent-child pairings in the Over 20 / Under 20 division. Jon Holroyd and his son Leo, fresh off a top-ten finish at the 2024 Worlds, are among those eager to compete. As they prepare for this prestigious event, the camaraderie and social aspects of the championships promise to enhance the experience for all participants.
