IMOCAs are making a surprising return to the Figaro class, with several top skippers eager to compete. Discover why this trend could reshape the competitive landscape for both classes.
Jérémie Beyou, a three-time Solitaire du Figaro Paprec winner, recently triumphed alongside Paul Morvan in the Laura Vergne Trophy but will not participate in this year’s Solitaire. Yoann Richomme, runner-up in the last Vendée Globe, faced an unfortunate setback, breaking three ribs during the BPGO Trophy and handing his project over to co-skipper Martin Le Pape.
However, two IMOCA skippers are set to compete in the 57th edition of the Figaro, departing from Perros-Guirec to Vigo. Loïs Berrehar prepares to launch his new Banque Populaire IMOCA next year, while Nico Lunven, a two-time Figaro champion, gears up for his tenth participation. Lunven, who secured two victories in preparatory races with young talent Tom Goron, is now ready for a solo challenge.
He highlights the unique nature of the Figaro BENETEAU 3: it simplifies project setup but demands precision at sea, where every meter counts. With Lunven back in the mix, the Figaro class promises an exciting showdown ahead.
