Jason Ryan faces uncertainty after the All Blacks coaching shake-up. Following Scott Robertson's dismissal as head coach, Ryan feared his tenure might end. Since stepping in as forwards coach before the 2022 Rugby Championship, he has been a consistent figure within the coaching staff. After the recent appointment of Dave Rennie, Ryan remained in his role while new assistants like Tana Umaga, Neil Barnes, and Mike Blair joined the team.
Ryan admits, “I’d never taken anything for granted in this job ever.” He acknowledges the difficulties faced by those affected by Robertson's departure. “It’s been tough on a lot of people, especially the coaches that aren’t there anymore,” he states.
Despite the turmoil, Ryan emphasizes the need to focus on the future. “I just want to get some progress in place now,” he says. He recognizes the challenges but is determined to excel in his core responsibilities. “You’ve just got to stick to what’s in front of you,” he adds.
Ryan looks forward to building stability within the All Blacks as they move ahead. With a commitment to development, he’s ready to tackle what's next for New Zealand rugby.
