Zac Lomax reveals the pivotal role Sonny Bill Williams played in his transition from rugby league to union. This insight sheds light on the journey of a player making a significant career change.
Lomax, a former NRL star with 133 appearances, recently signed a two-year contract with Rugby Australia and the Western Force. Following his departure from a three-year deal with the Parramatta Eels, uncertainty loomed over his future after plans for the rebel league R360 were delayed until 2028. The 26-year-old has already made his mark in union, scoring a try in his first start against the defending champions, the Crusaders, leading to a thrilling 31-26 victory.
Inspired by Williams, who also made a successful switch from league to union, Lomax admires his courage and ability to excel in both codes. “He’s just such a good human being,” Lomax states, highlighting the personal connection they share. He acknowledges his family and friends for their support during this transition and is determined to fully commit to his new path in rugby union.
The Western Force have a bye this weekend but are set to face the Waratahs in an Australian derby on May 1.
