Scott Barrett is on the verge of returning to the Crusaders after an extended sabbatical. This news could significantly impact the team's trajectory in Super Rugby Pacific.

Crusaders head coach Rob Penney confirms Barrett has regained full fitness and has been training with the squad. The All Blacks captain has not played this season due to a contract clause that allowed him to take time off following New Zealand’s 2025 end-of-year tour. During this period, Barrett underwent surgeries on his ankle and Achilles tendon. Though he will miss Friday’s match against the Waratahs at the One New Zealand Stadium, Penney indicates Barrett's return is imminent, stating, “He’s looking in great shape” and is “not far away.”

The Crusaders, currently in sixth place with a record of four wins and five losses, desperately need his experience as they aim to improve their standing in the league. They are coming off a narrow 31-26 loss to the Western Force. With crucial matches against the Hurricanes, Blues, and Chiefs on the horizon, Barrett’s return could be pivotal for the defending champions. Meanwhile, loose forward Cullen Grace is also close to making a comeback after an injury layoff, adding to the team's hopes.
