Luke Morgan’s late hit on Ethan Hooker has been labeled the ‘worst thing’ of the weekend by former Springboks star Hanyani Shimange. This shocking incident, which left Hooker with an injured shoulder, occurred after he scored a try, and it has ignited controversy as Morgan's actions went unpunished.
Hooker, a key player for the Sharks, will undergo scans to assess the damage while the Sharks demand an investigation from the United Rugby Championship. On The Verdict podcast, Shimange condemned the tackle, stating, “That’s a disgrace,” while fellow Springboks legends Schalk Burger and Jean de Villiers expressed their outrage over the lack of a penalty for Morgan.
The Sharks, now sitting 11th on the log after a 21-17 defeat to Ospreys, see their playoff hopes nearly extinguished. Shimange asserts, “If we look at it now, the Sharks are done.” Burger notes the significant gap between them and the top eight, while De Villiers points out that the Sharks will need a series of unlikely results from other teams to have any chance of making the playoffs.
With the pressure mounting, the Sharks face an uphill battle to revive their season as they grapple with injuries and dwindling hopes.
