Zac Lomax is set to debut for Western Force this Saturday against the Reds in Brisbane. The former NRL star made headlines after signing a two-year contract with Rugby Australia earlier this month. Coach Simon Cron includes him on the bench after Lomax missed last week’s clash with the Chiefs.
Reds head coach Les Kiss and fly-half Carter Gordon are optimistic about Lomax’s transition from rugby league. Gordon, who made his own switch to rugby union after an injury-plagued stint with the Gold Coast Titans, notes Lomax’s experience in the NRL and State of Origin. “He’s a great player,” Gordon states, acknowledging that how quickly Lomax adapts will depend on his commitment.
Kiss emphasizes that Lomax’s size will be an asset. He expects Lomax to excel once he masters the game’s intricacies, particularly in areas around the ruck and backfield. “He’s got to expect the high ball,” Kiss adds, highlighting it as one of Lomax’s key strengths. With strong coaching support at the Force, Lomax is poised to learn quickly. Kiss believes the process may be challenging, but Lomax’s dedication and study of the game will drive his success.
