The inaugural Antigua Racing Cup kicks off April 8-12, merging advanced race technology with Antigua's stunning natural course. Open to various keelboats and multihulls under IRC, CSA, and multihull ratings, the competition promises exhilarating racing. Race Committee chair Neil Andrew focuses on creating courses that maximize excitement across the diverse fleet.
Race manager Jaime Torres highlights a unique blend of Antigua's traditional virtues and modern tech. Virtual marks will complement conventional buoys, allowing for responsive courses that cater to varying conditions and team strategies. The program includes a four-day schedule with up to three races daily, ensuring top-tier competition in tropical conditions. Post-race Happy Hours will feature local Caribbean and international cuisine.
The fleet showcases a wide range of boats from 24 to 82 feet, with entries from North America, Europe, Scandinavia, and the Caribbean. Notable competitors include the 25m (82') Oyster Zig Zag and the legendary 79-foot Kialoa III, helmed by Swedish skipper Lennart Davidsson. The fastest contender is Dan Gribble's Tripp 65 Prevail (USA), while the HH66 catamaran Lee Overlay Partners III, led by Adrian Lee, aims for Line Honours. Competitive spirit runs high, with eight or more high-performance boats expected in CSA 2.
