Dani Sordo acknowledges interest from RMC Motorsport as the Spanish team plans its entry into the World Rally Championship for 2024. This development could reshape the competitive landscape of the WRC, especially with a focus on promoting Spanish talent.
RMC Motorsport, under the WRT Rally1 Spain banner, plans to develop a car adhering to the WRC's new 2027 technical regulations. The team, founded by Roberto Mendez, aims to participate in at least half of the rounds next season and a full schedule by 2028. While Sordo, a three-time WRC winner, is on their radar, RMC has not finalized its driver lineup. Manuel Avino, FIA vice-president for sport in Europe, emphasizes the team's priority is car development over driver decisions.
During the Rally Islas Canarias, Sordo expressed support for the new team, stating he would help but not as a driver. At 42, his focus remains on catching the Toyotas in the current rally and upcoming events. He highlights the importance of nurturing younger drivers like WRC2 contender Alejandro Cachon, indicating a desire for the new venture to uplift Spanish rallying while he continues his competitive pursuits with Hyundai.
