Competitors in the 2026 CIC Med Channel Race face intense competition as they enter Day 4, with just 12 miles separating seven boats. Here’s why this battle could redefine the standings for the remainder of the race.
Class40 No. 142 PHARE 40 - HA PLUS PME, skippered by Mathieu Clvaeau and François Verdier, initially crossed the finish line first at 7:02 a.m. but has since slipped in the rankings. As of 8:00 AM today, No. 134 STELLA NOVA leads, followed closely by No. 168 RDT LOGISTIC - OCEAN CONNECT, helmed by Yves Courbon and Matthieu Henry. The fleet navigates challenging conditions, sailing close-hauled into a 15-knot headwind while avoiding a firing zone off Sardinia.
Tactical decisions are critical; Courbon and Henry's choice to hug the shoreline has paid off, giving them a 5-mile lead. Notably, the all-female crew aboard No. 89 MER CONNEXION, with Ambre Hasson and Marine Feurstein, impressively claims second place despite their boat being the oldest in the fleet.
Meanwhile, Class40 #179 GLACES ROMANE has withdrawn due to engine issues, making a stop in Bonifacio before likely returning to Marseille. The race continues with crews eager for the downwind sailing that awaits them.
