Italian team Stig, led by Alessandro Rombelli, claims victory in the first round of the Cape 31 Mediterranean circuit at Yacht Club Costa Smeralda. This win sets the tone for an intense racing season ahead.
Over three days of competition in Porto Cervo, fourteen teams battled it out on the water, featuring one-design yachts designed by Mark Mills. Stig emerged as the champion despite the challenges posed by light winds, demonstrating tactical brilliance and teamwork, including contributions from Olympic medallist Sime Fantela.
The event kicked off with Django taking the early lead after day one, but Stig made a powerful comeback, dominating day two with three wins out of four races. Heading into the final day, the competition remained fierce, with Shotgunn trailing closely behind. Although Stig faced difficulties in the last race, finishing ninth, a fourth-place finish in the concluding race was enough to secure overall victory, edging out Shotgunn, the previous season’s champion.
Django won the final race but couldn't advance past Kalantis in the overall standings. Meanwhile, Team Chocolate excelled in the Corinthian category, marking a successful start to the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda’s racing season.
