Day 1 of the 46th St. Maarten Heineken Regatta kicks off with drama. Teams face a massive Caribbean squall as they head to the start areas in Simpson Bay and Cole Bay. The squall brings heavy rain and gusty winds, delaying the starts. Once it clears, perfect conditions emerge with sunshine, steady winds over 20 knots, and rolling five-foot swells.
Racing stretches from Baie Longue to Point Blanche. Start Boat B hosts Multihull 1, Multihull 2, Bareboat 1, Bareboat 2, Diam 24s, and Island Time classes. SOPHIA dominates Multihull 1, with owner Marcos Sirota praising his experienced crew.
In Bareboat, Shore Thing and Harbor House Out round a mark ahead, making their Regatta debut. Meanwhile, the CSA 1-6 classes and Melges 24 fleet tackle challenging conditions from Start Boat A, delivering thrilling moments and fierce competition across the racecourse.
