Sunsail kicks off its third year of the Funding the Future Initiative, aimed at uplifting grassroots sailing clubs across the UK. Here’s why your club should pay attention: this initiative offers a chance to secure vital funding that can transform local sailing communities.
Clubs like West Lancashire Yacht Club and Otley Sailing Club have previously received support, along with other notable runners-up such as Rudyard, Wilsonian, and Henley Sailing Club. This year, Sunsail introduces a top prize of £6,000 for the overall winner and £2,000 each for two runners-up. The funding can be used for upgrading boats, enhancing junior facilities, or bolstering volunteer support.
A key focus for 2026 is promoting women and girls in sailing. Clubs are encouraged to apply with initiatives that aim to increase female participation on the water. To enter, submit an application detailing your plans on the Sunsail website, www.sunsail.com/uk/funding-the-future. An esteemed judging panel, including Mark Jardine from YachtsandYachting.com, will evaluate the submissions.
Winners will be announced at the Southampton International Boat Show 2026. Don’t miss the opportunity to showcase your club’s vision for the future of sailing! The deadline for applications is May 22, 2026.
